What does it cost?
Nothing! It is absolutely free. This service is provided by volunteers, supported by the Sunshine Club and the RCMP.

Who can use the service?
Any individual in the Alberni Valley who lives alone is eligible to apply for the Friendly Phone Service. It is not necessary to be a Senior.

Do I need to be a member of the Sunshine Club?
No, this service is for everyone in the Alberni Valley who needs it.

How do I get the service?
1) Download the Client Application Form
2) Print it and fill it out
3) Bring it to the Sunshine Club at Echo Centre

Why can’t my contact people be living out of town?
Because they need to be able to check on you in your home quickly when you don’t answer the phone. They are usually relatives or neighbours. Be sure to check that they are willing to be a contact.

Can I get the call at another time of the day instead of the morning?
The calls are limited to 8:00 to 9:00 in the morning because this is the time our volunteers are available.
